Today, the Senate will deliberate on the statement made by the former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Danjuma (retd) on the insecurity in the country. Danjuma, at the convocation of Taraba State University on Saturday, urged Nigerians to resort to self-defence in the face of unending killings across the country. He also accused the military of complicity in the killings, especially in Taraba, where he said that the herdsmen were being aided in killing innocent citizens. The Senate’s decision followed a Point-of-Order raised by Sen. Yusuf Yusuf (APC-Taraba) at plenary on Tuesday. Yusuf pointed out that Danjuma raised fundamental issues that should be debated and investigated by the Senate. ESenator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) has thrown his support behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s stand against the tenure extension granted the party’s elected officials. Speaking on an interview on Channels TV, Sani said the president’s intervention has saved the party. He said: “The intervention of the President, if it was not done, it would have been disastrous for the party. I feel highly relieved. “So, in every sense of the word, it has saved the party from what would have consumed it at the end of the day. “If we went ahead with that tenure elongation, and someone from the opposition party goes to court after all the processes of congresses and primaries has been done, the point is that we may end up without a governorship or presidential candidate and without a candidate at all the legislative arm of government. “On my part, I told him (Buhari) right to his face that as a man who has seen it all, who has achieved so much as a...

It was gathered that police shot sporadically at the premises of the station to disperse crowd who attempted to resist the demolition. It is reported that hundreds of sympathizers arrived the radio station as earlier as 6am , but no one was injured in the incident. Speaking with newsmen shortly after the demolition, the Chief Executive Officer of station, Nawani Aboki, said that the reason for the demolition was political and that it was aimed at gagging the Press. "Due process was not followed. You can see that the wall is down now. It was marked yesterday and was demolished this morning. Like we said, he had a different reason for it. Whatever reason he gives officially is not the real one. This demolition was carried out because I don’t belong to the same political party as the governor. He is afraid that the station might not support his political ambition. Part of the reasons is that the station aired a report on the ongoing Labour strike in the state.” "We have t...
