Ezekwesili Reacts As Buhari, Atiku Are Absent In First Presidential Debate

Oby Ezekwesili has expressed displeasure at the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari, and former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, and some other leading candidates for the 2019 presidential elections at the first 2019 presidential debate. Atiku, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, sent in Segun Sowunmi to represent him at the event, while President Buhari of the All progressive Congress,APC sent in no representative for the debate. Speaking at the debate, Ezekwesili, presidential candidate of the ACPN, said she could have gotten angry and left, following the absence of Buhari and Atiku, but said she stayed for the debate out of respect for Nigerians present. The debate is currently holding in Abuja, and hosted by The Osasu Show, and supported by ONE campaign, Connected Development (CODE), and YALI Abuja. The Nigerian Election Debate Group has fixed January 19, 2019 for a debate for presidential candidates of different political parties taking part in the 2019 elections.

Chairman of the debate group and owner of Channels TV, John Momoh, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja today November 22nd. He added that the debates will hold at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and will be broadcast live by all BON members. According to the timetable released by the group, the vice presidential candidates are billed to have their debate on December 14th 2018. President Buhari will be debating alongside the likes of Oby Ezekwesili, Atiku Abubakar, Donald Duke and others.

Former Vice President Atiku ABubakar, officially declared his intention to run for president of Nigeria in the 2019 general elections.

Atiku declared his intentions when he paid a visit to the PDP in Rivers state today March 27th. During the visit, Atiku said his decision to make the announcement in Rivers State is because he believes Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike represents what he represented in 1998/99 as the live wire of the PDP. The former Vice President said that he is offering himself to set the country on the path of growth after the serial failure of the APC. According to Atiku, since assuming office in 2015, the APC Federal Government has destroyed the education, health and infrastructural sectors through poor budgetary allocations and releases. He added that he has never witnessed a more divided country like what it is right now under the APC government.
